The Player Repo: Understanding PPI
Every play is a data point. Every rep tells a story.
Player evaluations in The Player Repo are built on five key components:
Pre-Snap Assignment Success: Did the player align correctly and execute their role before the snap?
Post-Snap Assignment Success: Did they perform their job after the snap as intended?
Play Match-Up: Did the player win or lose their individual battle?
Play Effectiveness: How well did they execute — was the play elite, deficient, or somewhere in between?
Play Momentum Impact: Did the play shift the momentum — extend a drive, kill one, or create a turnover?
The first two metrics are scored as simple yes/no checks. The final three rely on outcomes backed by specific criteria.
Players must only select outcomes like “Won Match-Up” or “Elite Play” when a listed criterion is clearly met. These decisions are data-driven — not opinions.
PLAY EFFECTIVENESS
Measures how well a player performed their job on the play, ranging from exceptional to failed execution.
PLAY MATCH-UP
Evaluates whether a player won or lost their 1-on-1 battle. This includes blocking, tackling, and coverage.
PLAY MOMENTUM IMPACT
Captures how a play shifted momentum—did it extend a drive or kill one? Did it flip field position or cause a turnover?
